Why do we tolerate murderous cellphone driving menace?

9 June 2010,

Sir,

I am enclosing the june, 4, 2010, neera marga, mangalore tragedy which could have been worse but for the intervention of Providence.

The driver was using a cell phone while driving.

You can get a pulse of the public by the appended comments on the concerned authorities do nothing attitude in this extremely serious matter

University of Utah finds that driving while using a cell phone impairs driving to the same extent as driving under the influence of alcohol and US road traffic authorities treat it as a similar violation.

I have repeatedly complained about this menace to you all. Yet nothing has been done.

Why oh Why cannot we learn from the others mistakes instead of

this blind and mindless worship of technology?

WISDOM IS THE ABILITY TO LEARN FROM OTHERS MISTAKES!

Now it is time the government woke up and took some really strong measures. to prove that it is proactive and cares for the welfare of the majority not the luxuries of the few undeserving.

1) Cancel the license of the driver with immediate effect, without any further exculpatory chances for him.

2) Increase the fine from the measly 100 rupees to the highest possible level to totally discourage cellphone usewhile driving.

I am attaching a few pictures to demonstrate how two wheelers violate this rule in residential areas because police are not around.

Even fourwheeler car drivers should not be spared because their driving is equally impaired, if not more so because many of them drive with all glasses tinted vehicles and drunk in addition, with blaring music. Virtually like the proverbial three monkies ,eyes ears and all vital required senses for safety on road powered off.

Such drivers do not need benefit of doubt or mercy.

Any such sympathy shown according to Hindu philosophy is a paapa as apaatra daana.-unbefitting donation which bestows sin on the donor.

Sincerely yours

Truth is always in the past

After almost 6 decades of being exposed to Hindu Upanishads, Mahatma Gandhi and our Governmental proclamations - Satyam eva Jayate and its lesser known but better(?) half Naanrutam.
Truth alone triumphs and not a Lie.
I have experienced that Truth is always in the past.
Never in the present or ever in the future.
Unless we extend the past through the present into the future.
It is true! ha ha - I am looking at time in a linear fashion with a past, present, and future order!
This is the way the world moves? another truth? from past to present to future.
This simplistic equation should not prevent the truth from existing in the present and into the future also!
For one major reason.
Truth and Lie/Untruth are  creations of human mind, and consequently are solely  for the purposes of humans.
Since they are creations of human mind and for human purposes, they can be turned from one to another as easily.
This is because we  as a society place a heavy responsibility on individuals about telling the TRUTH.
Which means  said and did.
 Spoken or acted.
So when everything boils down to responsibility no one on earth wants to take it by default.
Few opt to take responsibility for their words and action.
It is these few who who will let truth live in the present and Future.
Otherwise Truth DIES in the past.
What has bothered me the past ten days or so are 1) Munirathna the BBMP corporator who did one life-luckilyonly one life- in, and 2) Warren Anderson ,the then Chief of Union Carbide who did 20,000 in and still counting.
As I said before, there is no earthly use for Truth except for Human purposes.
Truth is Sanjana Singh a young life was killed- nay murdered- when a shoddily built expensive wall collapsed on her.
20,000 murdered, countless other lives disabled and ruined for ever at Bhopal.- it looks now like for the greed of a multinational which is unwilling to pay for its misdeeds.
Fact is Indian 20,000 lives are less valuable than one US fugitive. Because it is a representation of what or where America is!
Actually, it was the government then in "need?" of dollars? sold the victims and the country down the line for measly dollars. What is worse?  Government let the big fish escape by a US aircraft!, and even these measly dollars did not reach the victims.
The judiciary was fully aware that this exactly was what would happen, but closed their eyes- justly as expected from good judiciary?
Now we have a law minister who wants the Law of Torts changed! Continue the Case against Warren Anderson!
Are we just lucky Warren Anderson is  still alive?
or just hoping that he will die soon so we dont have to continue the case?
Now all this happens because we want to in retrospect, find out what was said and done then.
So should we seek Truth in Retrospect or Prospect?
There is no "PRESENT" it is already PAST.
FUTURE IS NOT HERE YET.

illegal temple commercialization,neighborhood destruction

1 Jun 2010,

Dear Honorable Chief Minister Yediyurappa,

How has this systematic destruction- construction improved the residents or areas life quality?

You must have seen this temple since many years. Do you not weep at the destruction of the neighborhood?

WEHAVE TO LIVE ON THIS STREET HERE!

The trustees do not live here and so they do not have any right to destroy the quality of this neighborhood.

We would like to make it clear at the outset ,

1)our firm belief that Hinduism is a Philosophy more than a religion.

2) What we are seeking in religion without is available within ourselves.

3) The figure 33 crore Gods came from the then population, indicating that each individual is a God in himself.

4) Akrama -Anyayas( ಅಕ್ರಮ- ಅನ್ಯಾಯ) to the majority residents cannot be converted to sakrama -punya (

ಸಕ್ರಮ ಪುಣ್ಯ) of a few minority vested interests.

Lord Hanuman does not care what kind of abode he has, people surrounding him ,dependent on his popularity do.

No amount of kappas kaanikes (ಕಪ್ಪ ಕಾಣಿಕೆ) offered to temples can amend the anyaaya to the majority.

Why are the elected representatives influencing the civic officials from discharging their lawful duty? for a few garlands?

5) In a democracy peoples rights take precedence over religion.

6) legal violations, commercialization, immoralization of temples and religious institutions, need to be judged based on higher ethical and moral standards. Such transgressions destroy sanctity if any privileged to them by law or society.

Hanuman temple (pictures self descriptive) was systematically destroyed between 1975-2010 from a beautiful open air temple with free access where people offered their obeisances from even chord road a half mile away, into a jail for the lord and devotees for commercial considerations by a well ensconed unaccountable, unquestioned trust's activities.

What ever happened to the approval committee (BUAC?)

which was supposed to protect the aesthetic beauty of Bengaluru?

another victim to the greed of illegal constructors?

This is only one of a dozen or more temples and most"devotees" make a religious picnic -with paani poori, masala dosas etc visiting every temple around including ISKCON, Hanuman, Venkateshwara, Panachmukhi, Subramanya, Mookambika, Meenakshi, Ayyappa, Karumariamma all within 1 km range.

Even though it raises substantial question about the "devotees " " devotion" to this particular deity, it still not sufficient justification to sacrifice the residents

and their rights.

We have repeatedly brought to you, your ministers and your officials notice that the temple is made up mostly of illegal buildings violating all bye laws.

Devaalaya (ದೇವಾಲಯ ) is being transformed into a dungeon (ಹಿಂಸಾ ಗೃಹ)

for commercial considerations and oneupmanship over other temples in the area.

It has destroyed the quiet, peace and the quality of life for all of us resident here from even prior to the Rock turning to Hanuman.

Law has just provided a basic minimal requirement for a civil society.

Unfortunately,construction-destruction is continuing unabatedly despite repeated complaints about this to you, your ministers. Now with further illegal construction in violation of existing court orders and law suits and pending complaints before the muzarai department on the mismanagement of the trust due for hearing on 3rd june.

The administration, government and peoples representatives have been given sufficient discretionary powers to regulate and control religious trusts on a moral and ethical standard higher than that of beyond reasonable doubt required under CPC. to elevate ordinary administration to a Ram Rajya.

Unfotunately it is not even exercised at the IPC level.

Kindly direct and allow them to do what is fair and just under law, and PROTECT US and our environment.

Thank you in anticipation of prompt and just relief.

Sincerely yours

M B Nataraj

Rain water harvesting BWSSB/Government attitude reeks of Adharma 29 apr-1june 2010

1June 2010,
BWSSB told residents who went to update the RWH database with compliance that the information would be collected by the meter readers themselves!
I guess you are a BWSSB official? since the appellation at the bottom does not clarify how you got my letter?
The whole problem is the attitude of the approach.
You are antagonizing even the law abiding citizens.
You authorities treat citizens like enemies, criminals and preindependence day natives who understand only the language of the danda.
It is time to treat them like your allies.

Some houses especially my neighbors is already
situated such that all the water on his rooftop falls within his generous open earthed 4000 sq ft plot and is resorbed into the ground.
I have already put up necessary pipes to divert all the water to my 30x 20 front lawn with an open bottomed 1000 litre old sump.
What kind of compliance report should we file?
When the meter reader and aide can be the notice bearers why cannot they be the compliance reporters also on your behalf?
Why make customer run up to BWSSB officials doors?

Then why have you put up the list of authorized RWH contractors? and what do you mean there is not sufficient space? according to your plans even a 3x3x3 pit is sufficient. Does not even the smallest of the small sites have a sump that size?
if so they can accommodate a RWH pit. Why are you illegally- you are not authorized by law to disconnect water and sewerage supply- intimidating the customers- obviously the targetted 60,000- with it?
These are the kinds of actions that create unpleasant sense of opacity and underhand dealings in the BWSSB involvement in the entire RWH project even in the sympathetic willing to comply customers eyes.
It is definitely not a sign of transparent functioning.
The threatening attitude of the authorities is in total contrast with the conciliatory note you have sent me.
This confrontational approach will do any good for this already shaky government's popularity.

Kindly direct your meter readers to be the bearers of compliance reports also.
I wonder what action would you threaten me with if I choose not to go to your offices to file a compliance report.
The approach is either voluntary compliance by created awareness or draconian armtwisting which you started out with.
Incidentally the amendment that authorizes you with recovering dues does not talk anything about citizens having to run upto your offices for filing compliance?
Sincerely yours
M B Nataraj

2)Times of India 30 Apr 2010 page 3 DON’T PANIC, rainwater harvesting is no rocket science Jayashree Nandi TNN Bangalore: Bangloreans, breathe easy. Rainwater harvesting is a simple process. All you have to do is channel rainwater from your roof into the groundwater, recharge or store it and use the water for non-potable purposes. As the May 27 deadline for getting rainwater harvesting (RWH) fixed is fast approaching and with the BWSSB threatening to disconnect water supply, Bangaloreans are concerned about how to get it done. It is a simple process that any trained plumber can do. Usually, rainwater from the roof is drained out through several outlets. In RWH, the idea is to connect all these outlets with pipes and get the water to fall into an underground sump or a well.

3) TOI 8 May 2010 page 5 Breathe easy on rainwater harvesting TIMES NEWS NETWORK Bangalore: With legal complications becoming a hurdle for extension of the deadline for rainwater harvesting, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has decided to extend the May 27 deadline rather unofficially. “It is difficult to extend the deadline because of legal complications. To extend it, the BWSSB Act has to be changed and it will take at least six months to bring in an amendment,” said a senior legal officer with the BWSSB. He added that there is a long procedure to be followed before it is amended, as it has to be discussed and passed by the cabinet. “Hence, we would extend the deadline unofficially by not imposing any penalty or stop water supply,” he said. BWSSB had set a deadline of May 27. Officials met on Monday and decided to extend the deadline by a month.

4)TOI 13 May 2010 Page 1
Bangalore: Bangaloreans, relax. First, your water bills will not go up at least till summer is over. Second, the BWSSB has extended by two months the May 27 deadline to compulsorily fix rainwater harvesting in your house

5)Bangalore: Bangaloreans can now relax, as the Bangalore Water Supply & Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has decided to extend the May 27 deadline to install rainwater harvesting (RWH) units. With an amendment to the BWSSB Act, the board had made it mandatory for buildings on area of 40 ft x 60 ft and above to install RWH units by May 27, 2010. “The deadline to install rainwater harvesting units will be extended, but we haven’t decided by how many months. Citizens want three more months. A formal notification will be issued by the chairman,’’a senior BWSSB official told TOI. BWSSB convened a meeting on Monday to discuss the pros and cons of people’s requests for extension. A senior engineer, who attended this meeting, said: “After several rounds of discussion, we decided to extend the deadline by a month. We’re flooded with requests to extend it by at least three months. We have to discuss the issue again.” He added there’s not enough stock of pop-up filters required in RWH units because of the demand. “It’ll be another week before the stock is replenished and people are worried about this,” he added. S S Padbidri, president, Malleswaram Swabhimana Initiative, said: “It’s a good initiative to improve the groundwater level. But how will they implement it? They should take people into confidence.” He added that public spaces should be used to install RWH units. At least 60% of public space is not utilized and such places should be considered while implementing this project.

6) 27 May 2010, TOI

Bangalore: Bangaloreans can relax. Wednesday was the last day for installation of rainwater harvesting in your homes, but you may get more time. BWSSB had made it mandatory for all buildings with an area of 40X60 sqft and above to install rainwater harvesting. It had set a deadline of May 27, 2010. It had also threatened to disconnect water supply to those who failed to comply by May 27. “BWSSB chairman has written a letter to the government to extend the deadline with another amendment to the BWSSB Act. It would take some time for amendment because this issue will come up only in the next assembly session. Till then, the deadline has been relaxed and people need not panic,” senior BWSSB officials said.
